Chapter 2.2: How Shameless, Framing the Innocent
“All these were found in Grandfather’s room! How can they be fake?” Mu Ningxuan quickly quipped.
“You seem to be rather flustered and your eyes are shifty. It is clear that you are lying! Falsely accusing your own kin. What a vicious and ruthless person you are. It really turns people’s hearts cold.”
“I did not!”
“Hoho.” Mu Wushuang laughed coldly as she swept her gaze over the crowd. The look on many of those faces seemed uncertain and were wavering. That just showed her words earlier was working. She wasn’t about to think that just a few words from her was going to turn the situation around, but just wanted to plant a seed of doubt in the people’s hearts.
“Little Third Sis, we know that it is hard for you to accept this cold hard fact immediately, but no matter how much you refuse to believe it, the undeniable truth is that Grandfather was indeed working in cahoots with outsiders. His Majesty is most benevolent and Grandfather dotes on you the most. Why not we have you go persuade Grandfather to repent and mend his erroneous ways, so that he can then atone for his mistakes?”
A light and gentle voice rose, and Mu Ningxue who had not spoken a word all this time slowly stepped forward. Worry tinged her face, her gaze earnest, she was easily likeable, and people unconsciously fell for her words.
However, Mu Wushuang was absolutely certain that it was impossible that Old Lord Hou would ever commit treason. But as the Emperor had just ascended to the throne not too long ago, he would naturally be more mistrusting. Old Lord Hou held the Tiger Talisman, that gave him the command of five hundred thousand soldiers and cavalry, which would have already made the Emperor wary, so this bunch of scoundrels here are merely jointly putting on a show like this here, falsely accusing the loyal Old Lou Hou of treason, to force him to give up his prized Tiger Talisman!
Especially when the second branch family was from Old Lou Hou’s direct bloodline. The hearts of people are really no longer sincere and guileless like before.
Watching Mu Ningxue’s demeanor and manner of speaking, it was on a completely different level from her younger sister Mu Ningxuan, born from a concubine. Every single word that came out from her mouth made it seem as if her entire family in her branch was so saintly. Moreover, Mu Ningxue was very well-known in the Capital City as a gifted prodigy, with many noble young masters falling for her charms. Once those words came out from her mouth, they quickly turned Old Lord Hou into a traitorous and dishonourable man in many people’s minds!
As expected, she had just finished speaking when many voices could be heard criticizing Old Lord Hou.
Mu Ningxue strode over with light gentle steps towards Mu Wushuang, and when she got close enough, she said in a voice that was audible only to Mu Yuheng and Mu Wushuang: “Little Third Sis, I know that Grandfather gave you the Tiger Talisman. You only need to hand that over and I will plead with His Majesty to spare you your life. Otherwise, you will come to meet a similar end like Grandfather too!”
As she spoke, she gestured with her chin, pointing into the direction of the Hou Manor.
“Fire!”
“The Hou Manor is on fire!”
“Is Old Lord Hou committing suicide to escape punishment for his crime?”
All of a sudden, the sky a distance away glowed red from the great fire raging through the Hou Manor!
