Chapter 36.3: Three Years Later

Li Shang really could not understand why the prince who was an unromantic unfeeling man who held no tender or protective feelings for the opposite sex would be so popular with the ladies. Even his younger sister was smitten by him.

He suddenly seemed to have recalled something and added on, “What should I do with the tonics sent by the Empress?”

Xuanyuan Mo raised his eyebrows in contempt. That woman still hadn’t had enough?

Tonic? Seriously?

She really thought that he was a three year old kid?

“Let Yu Ying send it to Father.”

“Yes.” Li Shang bowed and left to carry out his orders.

……

In the past three years, there has been no change on the surface of the Vermillion Bird Empire, but in reality it was simply the calm before the storm.

Duanmu Shuang had been secretly planning a rebellion and was in cahoots with Regent Zhuge of the Black Tortoise Kingdom.

Vermillion Bird Main Hall.

Duanmu Xue sat high above everyone on the phoenix throne and looked down at the officials beneath.

“My beloved officials, Black Tortoise Kingdom has repeatedly breached into our borders. Just the other day, I received news from the northwest border saying that the Black Tortoise Great General has led a 300,000-strong army to invade our northwestern border. They are currently suppressing them, does any beloved official have a strategy?”

Everyone remained silent. After a long time, Great General Si Ru Xu stood up and bowed to Duanmu Xue.

“Your Majesty, those trifling kids from the Black Tortoise Kingdom dare to invade our northwestern border, they really overestimate their own capabilities. This humble official is willing to lead the army to suppress and show our Empire’s might.”

Duke Rui, Duanmu Fei, also took a step forward.

“This subordinate is also willing to lead the army.”

Duanmu Xue looked at the two before her and nodded in approval.

“Since the two beloved officials are doing so for the people and our Empire, then I shall appoint Duke Rui as the Grand Marshal and General Si as the second-in-command and lead a 200,000-strong army to the northwest border to kill the enemy and defend our Empire.”

“This subordinate is thankful to Your Majesty for your grace.”

“This humble official is thankful to Your Majesty for your grace.” Both of them knelt down to receive the edict.

There was a feeling of desolation in General Si’s heart, Her Majesty no longer trusted him as much as she used to. She even appointed Duke Rui to be the Grand Marshal, that meant that he would have to listen to Duke Rui’s orders in the future.

Sigh, he could only blame himself for his greed when he thought about hitching a ride to the sky on the dragon and phoenix, but the result was…

“Long live Her Majesty for thousands and thousands of years…..” Everyone knelt down on their knees.

A cold sneer hung from the corner of Duanmu Shuang’s mouth.

[Hmph. Duanmu Xue, this time Duanmu Fei and Si Ru Xu are not by your side, let’s see how you can resist my 100,000 strong army!]
