Chapter 43.3: First round, garnering attention

It was said that the top Alchemist throughout the Heaven’s Sea Continent, the Great Elder of the Alchemist Guild, did not achieve the full ten star grade himself, with the last star only half lit.

But this young lady had not only gotten all ten stars to light up brightly, even the entire Heaven’s Origin stone wall had shone. That was really…..

After the initial euphoria passed, the white robed old man was first to react. He came walking over to stand beside Duanmu Xi, his face filled with benevolent affection.

“Lass, are you interested in armament refinement? I can make you my direct disciple.”

The grey robed old man immediately came back to his senses and he immediately stepped forward with his brows bristling.

“What does Elder Xie mean by that?”

The white robed old man did not get angry but maintained a smiling face as he said: “There is no need for Elder Yuan to get agitated. I think the lass has yet to join you as an Alchemy disciple and she should still have the right to choose.”

The white robed old man’s face was gentle after he spoke and he then turned to look at Duanmu Xi. The grey robed old man similarly turned as well to look at the young lady, his face anxious, afraid that she would choose armament refinement.

Everyone else there just looked at Duanmu Xi with envy in their eyes.

The tests have not even ended and she already had two Elders from the Sacred Gold Academy fighting over her. What a great honour it was.

Under everyone’s intense stares, Duanmu Xi’s brows creased up slightly, her face resolute.

“I want to become an Alchemist.”

She had no interest in armament refinement and if it was not because of Little Shadow, she would not be interested in Alchemy as well.

Hearing Duanmu Xi’s reply, everyone’s faces looked stunned.

Everyone had thought that she would choose Elder Xie. It must be known that the Elders of the Sacred Gold Academy very rarely accepts disciples and if one were to become an Elder’s disciple, they would be able to study and learn within the inner yard, and enjoy a position that is different from all of them here.

The white robed old man was a little disappointed but he quickly went on to smile at Duanmu Xi.

“It’s alright, you can still learn armament refinement after you learn Alchemy as the two school of studies are not in conflict with each other. You can just come look for me whenever you want to learn armament refinement.”

The grey robed old man then blew out a breath in relief and his stern face showed a hint of a smile. He turned to the three people who passed and said: “The three of you will now come with me.”

The grey robed old man brought the three of them into an apothecary used for Alchemy.

The moment they entered the apothecary, the three of them immediately smelled the thick fragrance of herbs. It was not very bright inside the apothecary but Duamu Xi and the others were still able to clearly see several medicine cauldrons placed in the middle of the room.

“We shall now commence with the third and final round of the tests. The three portions of herbs placed before you now are all the same and the basic steps needed for the alchemy are written on the parchment beside it. You have four hours to cultivate and the time starts now.”

Upon hearing what the third test was, the two men became rather nervous. [If they knew how to refine medicine, why would they need to come take these tests?]

Duanmu Xi also had her brows furrowed together. She knew nothing about alchemy at all.

Seeing the worry on the three faces, the grey robed old man’s eyebrow raised up slightly.

“You do not have to feel so pressured. Just follow the steps written on the parchment and regardless whether you succeed in refining it, you’ll all be able to pass this third test and become a student of the Sacred Gold Academy.”

As the conditions to become an Alchemist were really too harsh, too few were able to make it through the first two tests. So for the final test that would ascertain their talent for Alchemy, they would not be eliminated regardless if they pass it or not.

Only the more talented one might also attract an Elder’s attention to accept them as a direct disciple.

The grey robed old man’s words immediately made the three of them relax. The three people walked over to their respective pile of herbs and what kind of medicine were they supposed to refine?
